Antônio Rebouças

Born in 1839, and by his brother André Rebouças’ side were the first Black engineers in Brazil. Hired by the Companhia Paulista de Estradas de Ferro (São Paulo Railway Company) to build the first reinforced concrete bridge in Brazil, which initially had the commercial objective of connecting a railway line between Piracicaba and Limeira.
Igreja do Rosário

The Rosary brotherhood, formed by Black people, built the Rosario Church in the city of Campinas at the end of the 19th century, a space for organizing the population of African descent, both enslaved and free. Amid protests, the church was demolished in 1956 to make way for street renovations in the city center.
Laudelina de Campos Melo

Laudelina was a woman of courage and vision. Born in 1904, she founded the first domestic workers union in Brazil, a landmark that represented not only the pursuit of better working conditions, but also a direct confrontation with the structural racism that plagued Brazilian society
Deolinda Madre - Madrinha Eunice

Deolinda Madre, or as she became affectionately known, Madrinha Eunice (Godmother Eunice), was born in a time of challenges and resistance, but it was in her heart that the rhythm that would unite generations pulsed. In 1937, in the Liberdade neighborhood, she founded the Lavapés Samba School, the first in São Paulo. A space of culture, celebration and, above all, resistance.
João de Camargo

A remarkable leader in the history of Sorocaba and a symbol of resistance for the Black community in the early 20th century. Founder of the Church of Bom Jesus do Bonfim das Águas Vermelhas, which became more than a religious space: a territory of refuge and unity for the marginalized.
Largo do Talho / Talho Square

A historic space that preserves the cultural roots of Sorocaba. Located in the heart of the city, the Municipal Market was built there, where many enslaved people worked daily. But, in their free time, the Largo (Square) came alive: it was the meeting point of the city's first capoeira practitioners, transforming that space into a territory of freedom, rebellion, and Black identity.
